Movies on planes. In a way it is the perfect time to watch movies. Sometimes when you are wearing the headphones stuck in your seat you have a more intense movie watching sensation than anywhere else. I can remember really enjoying watching a remake of The 39 Steps one time. Watching the amazing rolling greens of British countryside shot from a steam train ........ I had been in Gaza for a month........ wow I was so missing the green and pleasant land of home .......... I was loving this movie with its ambience of archetypal Britain it was so relaxing ......... as the film ended I remembered with a jolt ....... I was about to Land in Karachi in Pakistan..... somewhere seriously far away from the green green grass of home.
So now Im sitting on the flight back from London....... heading back to Atlanta......... 2 full days in London Saturday and Sunday with a really good block of Friday and a tiny bit of Monday too..... that was it for London........ still I got quite a bit done...... shoot then hangout...... then roll.........
Maybe all this zapping about is getting to me. I am a bit tired. Tired and emotional....... to borrow a bit of great Private Eye speak.......... :-)
I have just finished watching The Time Travelers Wife........ Truth is .. I have watched pretty well every movie Delta is offering at the moment..... Harry Potter (more of the same)....... Transformers 2 (Action movie with Megan Fox so Im gonna like it)....... Inglorious Basterds (I liked this a lot)......... White Out (This kind of Stressed me out) .......... District 9 (this is an incredible movie unique)...... Up .... Unbelievable .... GiJoe .... blah blah.... I've even watched (500) Days of Summer and a few things I know I would not have been watching if I wasn't running out of movies ......... you can tell Ive been flying really a lot recently ...... cos mostly I don't even watch the movies when Im on a plane. First I have to download and edit all the pics from my shoots before I start watching the films.......... So most flights i don't watch anything and Ive still watched everything.
The Time Travelers Wife ..... I just didn't fancy it from the description. I watched all those others first ........... and again on this flight first I start watching Public Enemies the other one I don't fancy ........ I know I don't want to watch this........ for some reason I don't like movies set in the days of the Chicago gangsters........ apart from The Untouchables ............ So they are robbing the bank and shooting people as they ride away on the running boards of those 1920s cars......... nah........ so I flick out of that after 10 minutes.......... so that leaves me only The Time Travelers wife.............. so I start to watch this........ it has a shocking opening I am immediately hooked.
The Time Traveller jumps forward and backwards in the time line of his life.......... This allows him to speak to his mother while he is an adult even though she died when he was a child........... etc etc........... Oh yeah he cannot control this process so it is rather harrowing and he often returns to traumatic bits of his life....... like the death of his mother.
But I did feel pretty drawn in by this movie. I think the prospect of speaking one more time to those who you have lost......... Speaks to us all........ Certainly speaks to me........ I often dream of talking with my brother just one more time.
Now I feel totally done in by having watched this movie........
Cheers Jez XXXXXXXX
PS......... You are right Amin....... This picture is slightly cheating as I was not in NYC today....... but apparently we are right now as i write flying just to the West of it .......... and for some reason Matt had emailed me this image today so Im putting it up ....... so here it is a Jezblog poster designed by the multi talented Aminwinner of most creative bloke with a real job :-)) .......... I shot the image while hanging in Boston Market on 23rd Street NYC ..... :-))
PPS....... so its 20 hours later or something crazy ...... I arrived in Atlanta at 6PM....... its now 3AM I am in Daytona Beach Florida...... not quite sure why we had to drive instead of fly....... hey ours is not to reason why....... still I can't complain Matt drove...... he is a star.
PPPS......... I now know that Matt emailed me this image above because he was making it into the wall paper on my brand new iphone that he has got me...... and its all up and running....... Matt ....... he is a star ..... the iPhone is dead long live the iPhone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally caught a chance to read the main street rag interview! extremely good, but too short.. a follow up is a must Lynda! ha ha :-) i liked your ethos in looking for the beauty in every image as opposed to the shocking/awesome. short statements like that will have direct influence on the way i approach my stuff in future.. keep up the good work![reply]Brian Bateson @ February 2, 2010, 7:12 am
Brian, I have about 3.5 hours of voice recording and over 50 pages of notes that I DID NOT use (limited by word count at the mag), so a follow up is definitely a good idea :-) ... Jez is so thoughtful and articulate that, believe it or not, all of the stuff that got cut or left out is just as good as the stuff (sometimes even better!) that made it into print ... a follow up is definitely on my "to do" list! :-) ... perhaps by then I can better figure out how to work Skype in order to not drive Jez crazy with my lack of tech abilities ;-)[reply]Lynda @ February 2, 2010, 9:37 am
Hey Lynda...:-) I'm not sure how much more on Jez Coulson the world can take & I am surprised even u can contemplate more... Heheheh... Surprised but glad u think u could do yet more hehehe...:-) :-)) :-)) cheers Jez XX[reply]Jezblog Port St Lucie @ February 3, 2010, 2:03 am
Hey, I'm truly grateful for the compliments on my writing ... Thank you! ... I do believe the world could take more Jazzy Jez (folks 'round here say they'd like to read more, seriously, I've even had folks follow up and ask some questions about you) ... perhaps we should consider "round two" because, sadly, tragically, we didn't even make it to that time you wrestled that alligator with your bare hands :-)
p.s. --- I'm lovin' the sunset photo![reply]Lynda @ February 3, 2010, 9:38 pm
Thanx Brian I think probably 22 pages is enough about me no matter how amazingly well written... Cheers JezXX[reply]Jezblog Port St Lucie @ February 2, 2010, 10:27 pm
