it was pretty hardcore even for me.... It's something like a 12 or 13 hour drive... I set out from Eastern in MD at 5PM drove to DC shot a job then left DC at 9-00PM for ATL... Kept driving all night then arrived about 9-30 AM in ATL as u know I left NYC at 8PM the night before... Tonight I am rolling back north.... Obviously, if you would have let us know, you could have stopped and stayed here in NC with us. Steve is usually up until three or four am (he was up all night last night) .. all you had to do was call us then come on over ... you have our contact info., cell phones, house phone, office phone ... and our house is way better than a dodgy motel, or we could have put you in a dorm room at the University next door (hey some of them are co-ed) :-)[reply]Lynda @ June 27, 2009, 10:09 am
I said to Matt I ought to stop at your place... He said it wasn't too far off the road but as u know I was cutting my arrival pretty fine... I missed the meeting.. But the hard deadline was Friday as Matt was leaving town.. So I rolled down just inside the time window without deviating from the i85 and I am zapping back to shoot in DC hehehe... Still there is a tiny bit more photo library to go... I think Matt is gonna drive it down from the DC storage... But if I do it...that's a very kind offer... We're about 5 hours from DC and 6 hours from ATL, so a good midpoint for you to stop and take a break. Feel free to give us a call anytime. The pink Fuzzy PJ could not be as frightening as the dodgy motel in Charlotte that I eventually crawled up to..... there is no way I would have booked it...... but in the end another whole night of driving was just not an option...... I went as far as was possible..... without drinking any more of those stay awake drinks..... if I ever am mad enough to drive back to the big ATL from NYC........ I am coming via you.... Anything with the Hoff ... Hehehe... Yeah sadly these people are treating me like a soccer mom.... Well I am driving a mini van... This would be a fun trip in the beast... But you would be a ble to bring only two pairs of extra socks and the negatives from only one trip to Siberia.... On the way down I had three pairs of socks and the transparencies and negatives from 15 years of photojournalism all over the world.... Literally about a ton of work... Now I'm rolling back North with the empty van... I should of got Fedex to ship it... But all this stuff was lost for a few days one other time it was shipped... So it's more relaxing...to to it yourself... Even if it requires you to do the 1500 mile round trip and stay up all night.... Well because I had the van i brought the whole lot in case I decided to emigrate to Atlanta...... Its reassuring to travel with clothes enough to last two or three years without any washing..... :-))
My fave tale of clothes socks and especially under pants lasting a fair while....... A couple of friends of mine are a cameraman and soundman TV crew on an assignment in Somalia....... but their clothes dont turn up...... so they have only the clothes they are wearing...... after a few days its thought to be a good idea to put their underpants inside out...... but then after a few more days....... it was thought wise to swap under pants..... then after a few more days inside out again...... then after a while swap back again.......
