I like a good road trip....... I even sometimes secretly enjoy bad ones....... of a certain type........ when you need to get from A to B in a serious hurry when there are no flights etc........ it is a drag....... but actually it can be great...... but I really do hate trips that involve jams.
Yesterdays drive down from DC to Atlanta was a bit of a killer because it had to be completed in a closing time frame........ and I had not set out leaving myself enough time....... so I ended up needing to drive all night....... it was madness but I quite enjoyed it really........ I drank about 10 of those Red Bull Energy stay awake kind of drinks........ I've never drank that many before............ I had sort of lost any residual fear of them.......... I used to have a respectful slight trepidation of them.......... anyway...... by the time I was still driving at dawn (see yesterdays photograph) I suddenly realized my heart was racing and I was feeling very weird.......... I had just drunk way to many of these things .......... by the dawn..... the mega caffine and stimulants in those drinks were really kicking in.......... my heart was racing racing and I was feeling very weird....... I felt like a right idiot......... fancy drinking that many of those drinks........ especially while listening to wall to wall coverage of the cardiac arrest and subsequent death of Michael Jackson.
I seem to have survived it........ but on the way back I drank none of the mega stimulant 'No Fear' or 'Red Bull' type things and limited myself to only a couple of coffees.
The trip back is much more civilized......... as I was edging out of North Carolina into Virginia a sinking feeling came over me........ 'Not driving in Virginia!'........ Agggggghhhhhhh............ Suddenly ....... I had a thought ........... its a bit of a long way round and you still go in Virginia........ but you get less Virginia.......... and its much more scenic.......... if you roll up the US 13 Ocean Highway over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.......... it takes longer than the main road route up the i95 round the DC Beltway and on to MD on US 50 and the Bay Bridge........ but hey..... What the Hell? So I just deviated to the coast........ Matt was already ahead of me (as he woke up earier than me) in his own vehicle so he went the approved route and beat me by over 5 hours.
But I got to have a pile of road trip adventures........... here is a picture I made on the fishing pier that is weirdly in the middle of the amazing 21 mile Chesapeake Bridge Tunnel...........
This is Shawn Stack mega expert fisherman with a shark he and his buddies have just caught....... they are releasing the small shark from hook just before throwing him back.
He looks astonished. The shark I mean... not Shawn.[reply]Lee @ June 28, 2009, 5:22 am
I was pretty astonished by him........ and I think the shark was astonished that I was fiddling about doin his portrait in the failing evening light....... leaving myself another five hours of driving to go in the darkness :-)
Nice to hear they throwing it back! Would they have kept a bigger one? Keep on trucking dude..........[reply]PaulS @ June 28, 2009, 8:22 am
Yeah there are rules about all that....... but Im not sure how it all works.... but this little guy was always going back in!! He was a pretty frisky little guy!

RedBull is not a great idea on long road trips.. I had that very same experience on one of my trips from Illinois to Florida before I moved here.. 5 hour energy works so much better Jez.. Good to hear the road trip went well.. When are you going to be down in ATL for more than a day?Corey @ June 28, 2009, 11:30 am
You r so right....... I also drank 3 or 4 of those..... er..... yeah..... I know complete madness...... aswell as all those crazed NO FEAR or MONSTER or what ever they were..... like I say I think it was Matt saying he drinks 3 or 4 of these 6 hour energy drinks before he plays a gig..... so I was thinking oh well they probably don't effect you that much..... so I'll do the same..... Big mistake!
Yeah one day i might visit Atlanta for more than 5 hours......... hehehehe...... I'll be back...... soon but not sure when at the moment..... :-))
