As luck would have it the Times (of London) Space Supplement celebrating the First moon landing 40 years ago is running today........ so I think my Buzz Aldrin stuff is running today.......... so here is one of the pictures from the shoot.........
Buzz Aldrin...... He walked on the moon......... How astonishing is that........ When you really think about it.......... His is a mega career with the singularly amazing pinnacle of achievement....... and he is a good guy......... But all the adulation and fame mixed with a big..... what next? That hung around him.... led him to fall prey too..... then fight off the joint demons of alcoholism and depression........ he seems to have come through OK........ and his new book Magnificent Desolation timed to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 looks at his life and times ......... and gives you the good times and the bad. Actually...... He really is a good guy and has a special aura about him........ and you know what....... I did feel genuinely honored to have met him............ a celestial being........ a man who has left our own rock in space and walked on another........ wow.
Greg was amazed and I think slightly disapproving of how I was photographing him in this set up......... hehehehe......... I know its a little crazy....... but it kind of of added a physical visual reality to how people perceive this 'Star man' Astronaut....... hehehehe........... OK its a little silly but I really like this portrait......... and although Greg thought it might be a little too silly....... I kind of like it....... in fact I like it a whole lot....... hehehe........ What do you think??
Cheers Jez XXXXXXXXXX
PS...... I am rolling to Mount Vernon today George Washington's House....... not sure I can put up the results as I am on assignment....... but hey Happy 4th of July to you all!!!!!!!!! Celebrate with a picture of an all American hero......... Buzz!
i think this is awesome baby!
it feels a bit like an illustration, which is something i like. [reply]aminInNYC @ July 3, 2009, 1:59 am
Yes..... yes an illustration where your imagination allows you to go for it....... you can give Buzz a halo if you feel like it....... and add some planets too if the mood takes you........ hehehehe........ yes in my reportage photo world I don't normally have that freedom...... maybe I should get into bringing more props and start messing about a bit more...... hehehe........ :-))
Thanks baby Cheers Jez XXXXXXX[reply]jezblog in MD @ July 3, 2009, 9:21 am
Whatever you do don't mention any stupid conspiracy theoris in his presence..he will hit you..err but truthfully..unlike all these bland, nothing celebrities that we are meant to be constantly in awe of..Buzz really is a truly awesome individual..I'm jealous![reply]Morbidly Obese Mary x @ July 3, 2009, 4:47 am
Oh yeah he is rightly down on people who know almost literally nothing.... articulating ridiculous conspiracy theories....... just making stuff up...... not arming themselves with real knowledge or science or in fact dealing with actual reality in anyway...... yeah he really is down on that stuff....... conspiracy theory types should be only dealt ridicule and contempt in his view to stop the spread of willful stupidity and ignorance..... cant really argue with that....
Dude he actually was awesome :-) Without being crazy in in your expectation of a real life man. I read he shot down Mig's in ariel dogfights over Korea before joining the space program. Amazing life...... And you know Its amazing to really meet some one who has walked on the moon.......
We took Haydn's little girl who wants to be an astronaut he was of course lovely to her..... a true hero bro.
Fitting for the astral star. the glowing halo is what we all invision around all of our heads. Buzz, truly a star king! Bravo!![reply]Marco Berard @ July 3, 2009, 9:27 am
Hey Marco..... you are right in my view he looks like people perceive him in this....... Halo for all?....Im sure I dont deserve one....... but I think I may have given you one in the past? Against the sun on one of those roofs...... ? You were busy working away in the Katrina clear-up you probably deserved one then at least...... hehehe
Buzz will love this photo! I saw him in the documentary film "In The Shadow of the Moon" -- great movie -- if he's anything in real life like he was in that movie, he'll surely approve of your creative capture. I bet he enjoyed meeting you too.[reply]Lynda in TN @ July 3, 2009, 11:15 am
Charming ... that's the word I was trying to think of earlier and couldn't ... charming. This photo is charming.[reply]Lynda in TN @ July 3, 2009, 12:30 pm
I bet Buzz loves this! Like the Sixtie when people really did bow before him.A job nearly all of us wanted to do.....until we grew up and realised we aint that good with heights after all.........[reply]PaulS @ July 3, 2009, 1:14 pm
I love the portrait! Great shot Jez.. It gives this special feeling to the fact that he was one of the few people to walk on the moon and help move our space program forward. Enjoy your 4th![reply]Corey @ July 3, 2009, 4:34 pm
A sort of Spanish saint with strange taste in ties and yet such a life.
Cool picture though[reply]Elizabeth in 4A @ July 3, 2009, 5:05 pm
of course we like it - the buzz in the air around Buzz; the explosion under the launchpad.
He's a legend with an aura and you've shown it.[reply]Ann oDyne @ July 4, 2009, 4:23 am
Best stay out of Virginia today, Jez ... police, police everywhere! Passed a half dozen cops in the past hour. Am driving veeeeeery sloooooowly.[reply]Lynda in VA @ July 4, 2009, 7:28 pm
ps..... Happy 4th Lynda... I am so tired I can hardly use this phone... I got up at 4-30AM... But it has been a great day. Desire having to go to virginia! Cheers Lynda Jez xXX[reply]Jezblog Eastern MD @ July 4, 2009, 11:23 pm
What's the old Amish saying? All roads lead to Virginia? :-) Or maybe AC/DC wrote the song Highway to Hell just for folks driving through VA ;-) ... had a random traveling buddy yesterday: a brand new, candy apple red Mustang GT that honked his horn to warn me whenever there was a cop ahead ... He must have had a radar detector ... I drove alongside him through most of VA and even took a pic of his car ... nice dude, GORGEOUS car ;-)
I was in Virginia for a short while it's always scary cos it's so arbitary and stupid... I've started to really hate Virginia because of my experiences with the fat make it up cop the corrupt lawyer and courts... Yeah thanks for your warning... I'd go further... It's best never to go there if possible.... Sometimes you've got to go there but in general it's much wiser to stay outJezblog Eastern MD @ July 4, 2009, 11:14 pm
I really love the glow above his head. it's so symbolic and at the same time it makes the picture out of the ordinary.[reply]jaziel @ July 13, 2009, 8:19 am
